The Book of Order states our main duty is to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith.

The 2004 year activities were as follows:
    • Cards sent: 257
    • Calls made: 157
    • Visits & outreach: 98
    • Transportation provided: 116
    • Meals provided for the sick: 23
    • Food pantry: 5 (also assisting hurricane victims)

Your Deacons also provided church and family support for memorial services conducted in our sanctuary.

Help in the form of food certificates or items from our pantry was given to several needy families. We provided special monetary funds to assist families with children when there was a great need. Many other functions were performed by your Deacons and were reported in the monthly reports.

We especially appreciated Pastor Katie Treadway's input and the loyalty of attendance by the Deacon family. An exceptional group worked together with heart and sourt. Ilene Stephey has done a fantastic job being our Outreach leader.

We want the congregation to know how much we appreciated the donations and contributions of food and money we requested during the hurricane crisis and the other times when we needed extra help.

At the end of the 2004 year, Jay Hazelton, Yvonne Kelly, Mitzi Moran, and Al Zill will leave as Active Deacons. New Deacons Betty Baughman, Bill Montag, Shirley Perkins, & Joan Rinehart will be working with Ilene Stephey and Arlene Johnson this coming year. Ilene & Arlene have one more year to serve their elected terms. The new Board of Deacons is scheduled to hold its first meeting on Monday, January 3 at 5:30 p.m.

The Board of Deacons continues to covet your prayers as they work to do God's will for the SLPC (USA) during the coming 2005.
