Welcome to our Music Ministry at SLPC. Music provides just one of many opportunties for congregants with a desire to serve God and His Church.
All that is required to be a part of the SLPC Sanctuary Choir is a desire to sing, enjoyment of the fellowship, and worship through music. Whether you have a professional background or an amateur, and would like to be a part of a growing exciting ministry, you are WELCOME here.
What is an amateur? From the Latin "amator:" love of, devotion, enthusiastic pursuer of an objective, i.e. a person who engages in an activity such as singing for the sheer "love" of it. Does this sound like you?
What the Presbyterian Church says about singing:
"Song is a response which engages the whole self in prayer. Song unites the faithful in common prayer wherever they gather for worship whether in church, home, or other special place....Through the ages and from varied cultures, the church has developed additional musical forms for congregational prayer. Congregations are encouraged to use these diverse musical forms for prayer as well as those which arise out of the musical life of their own cultures. To lead the congregation in the singing of prayer is a primary role of the choir and other musicians. They also may pray on behalf of the congregation with introits, responses, and other musical forms. Instrumental music may be a form of prayer since words are not essential to prayer. In worship, music is not to be for entertainment or artistic display. Care should be taken that it not be used merely as a cover for silence." (Book of Order W-2.1003 - W-2.1004)
UPCOMING EVENTS: The choir in rehearsal for an Easter cantata of scriptures and songs called "It is Well With My Soul". Look for narration and participation by our SLPC children. The performance is scheduled for Mar. 23 at 10:00 A.M. .
We cannot have good M_SIC without U.

The Holy Season has just passed and the choir has finished our customized Easter Cantata, "It is Well with My Soul". Summer looms ahead when many of our choir members make vacation plans. In spite of frequent absences, the choir will go on with musical "summer reruns".
As many of us "recharge our batteries", we also start planning our recruitment campaign to invite new members to the choir. So if you happen to have any musical talent or just love to sing, please join us. What a wonderful way to serve the Lord and the "Church".

The Sanctuary Choir
|
Each week our choir brings outstanding music to the congregation. Our Sanctuary Choir is made up of volunteer members of the congregation. We sing for all worship services and generally sing two cantatas each year (Christmas and Easter). The Choir is a great place to meet people who share a passion for making music, enjoy the fellowing of other members, and the opportunity to use their talent to worship the Lord.
THANK YOU!
Hats go off to each and every one who commit themselves to our music ministry. These are the angels who attend most of the rehearsals and ready to sing on Sunday. SLPC choir members are always willing to come out for all the extra rehearsals before Christmas.
Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7:00 to 8:15 p.m., (Sept. thru April) in the Sanctuary and at 9:30 a.m. before Sunday’s worship. No audition is required to join. All is needed is a commitment to attend rehearsals and worship services. We'll provide the clothes (choir robes) and save a seat for you.
